St. Nicks VI

Played at St. Nicks again this past Saturday. The gig seems to be getting better and better. George and I click pretty well and there was a new bassist with us. The place was packed with a good mix of regulars and newcomers.

There was also an unusually high number of established touring jazz musicians hanging out for some reason. I can’t recall all of them, but Eli Fountain sat in with us. Apparently he goes on the road with the likes of James Carter and Geri Allen. Despite his displaying the typical “I’m amazing because I play jazz” vibe, I talked to him for awhile between sets and he was actually a nice guy. Turns out his dad (by the same name) played saxophone on a ton of r&b hits including Marvin Gayes’ What’s Goin On.
