Philadelphia and St. Nicks VII

Went to Philadelphia last Friday to see some the old gang. I mostly wanted to get down there to check out Jas’ recent paintings in the Seraphin Gallery. He’s an amazing artist and it’s always the best to see his work—it always blows my mind.

I drove back on Saturday to play at St. Nicks Pub again. I usually take it easy at that gig because it’s not my show and I just want to complement things well, but for some reason I felt like playing my ass off. On the breaks I ended up getting a lot of How did someone like you, end up playing like that?. It’s a familiar refrain I’ve heard for a long time. I usually respond by shrugging my shoulders and saying I’ve always liked playing the piano. Which is then met by: But really, I mean… how did someone like you, get to playing like that… that don’t teach that stuff in schools ya know.

Anyways—as usual—it was a pretty fun night.
